The O Visa category is comprised by three types of Visa: O-1, O-2 and O-3.

You may present an application for a O-1 Visa up to a year prior to the date you want it to become effective. However, the majority of the people present the application between 3 to 6 months before the initiation date.
Visas O-2 are for the supporting staff of Visa O-1 holders. Thus, holders of O-1 and O-2 Visa must have known each other for a long period of time. The spouses and unmarried children of holders of O-1 Visas have the right to access to an O-3 Visa in order to accompany the holder of the O-1 Visa.
